1 Shiva Lingashtakam is a highly revered eight hymn Shiva Mantra. It is used as a prayer to worship Lord Shiva.
2 Every single stanza featured in this Mantra glorifies Shiva-Linga in Sanskrit and narrates its greatness in an elaborated form.
3 It is included in the list of most commonly chanted Mantras of Lord Shiva, along with Shiva Panchakshari.
4 The Shaiva priests consider it to be highly auspicious to recite the Lingashtakam Mantra during Shivratri nights.
5 It is said that any Shiva devotee who chants this holy octet of the Shiva Lingam with great devotion would receive Moksha (liberation).
6 The first verse of the Shiva Lingashtakam Mantra is believed to be really important. It says,
||Brahma Muraari Suraarchita Lingam, Nirmala Bhashita Shobhita Lingam, Janmaja Dukha Vinaashaka Lingam, Tat Pranamami Sadaa Shiva Lingam||
7 The meaning of this verse is;
One which is adored by Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu (Muraari) and other Gods, which is Pure, Shining and well-adorned, which destroys the sorrows related to the cycle of birth-death. I respectfully bow before that Sadaa Shiva Linga.
